Books: What are you reading?

I found it funny when I logged into Brazen Careerist this evening that 4 out of 5 of the most recent conversations were about books and reading.

talking about books on brazen careerist

So, I thought I’d ask…

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What are your thoughts on audio-books?
  3. Do you read books more than once?
  4. Have you ever been in a book club? Was it in person or a virtual group?
  5. Do you share what you’re reading online?

Follow what I’m reading (sometimes physical books, other times Kindle app, and audiobooks) on Goodreads. Your turn!

  1. 1.) Currently reading: ‘The Boys of Summer’ – Roger Kahn (Classic narrative of growin up withing shouting distance of Ebbets Field, Covering the Jackie Robinson Dodgers, and What’s happened to everybody since.

Jenny Blake’s galley copy of Life After College

Perusing Tim Ferris’ The 4 Hour Body.

2.) I might do audiobooks if I had a longer commute, but I also like scribbling in books, taking notes in which case I’d rather read because I can read it faster than someone can read it to me.

3.) Yes. I always want to revisit my favorites, but am conflicted b/c I there’s always some new book that I can’t wait to get my hands on either. I’m a book/shoe junkie.

    4.) Nope. Don’t know that I would.

    5.) I keep my Shelfari shelf semi-updated: http://www.shelfari.com/ryanstephens/shelf

    1. I’m currently reading Three to Get Deadly it’s part of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum Series. I also just finished The Spellman Files, which is the first in a series of books about a family of private eyes by Lisa Lutz. My mother got me hooked on both series.

    2. I’ve never bought one because I like the feel of a book in my hands. That said, I really like listening to the old radio classics so I’m sure I’d enjoy listening to audio books were I so inclined.

    3. I haven’t but just watched the original Little Women movie on AMC and thought I might like to reread my childhood favorite. I’ve also been considering rereading my way through Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series so I can finally finish reading all of the books. I don’t remember where I stopped reading if it was Memnoch the Devil or something later.

    4. I was in an online book club that never took off. No one could agree on anything. Everyone wanted their way. I’d love to be part of a reading group either online or IRL. I think it would be great to sit and discuss what we’re reading.

    5. I do. In fact I have a whole page on my website devoted to just that. http://www.pagliotti.com/newsoapbox/?page_id=81

  3. 1) Reading “The Corrections”, by Jonathan Franzen. Engaging read, but a little stressful and depressing at times — about a dysfunctional extended family.

    2) I’ve never gotten into audiobooks, but my time in the car is so disjointed that it would be tough to get any solid time to listen to a book.

    3) I definitely re-read favorites, and sometimes I accidentally re-read ones that weren’t such favorites due to a horrible memory when it comes to those things. Sometimes I find myself in the middle of a book realizing that I’ve already read it. 🙂

    4) I’ve never been part of a book club. I prefer to go at my own pace when reading, and would probably react to a book club like I did to English class in high school and rebel against the imposed schedule.

    5) Yeah, I talk a bit online about the books I’m reading. I use Goodreads and tweet about them, too. In fact, I tried to add you as a contact on Goodreads and found that we’re already friends! I need to pay closer attention, I guess!

  4. What are you currently reading?
Clean by Alejandro Junger and The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

What are your thoughts on audio-books?
I love the idea of audio-books even though I’ve never listened one. I do plan on giving it a try.

Do you read books more than once?
Yes. I have read A Confederacy of Dunces multiple times. I also enjoy reading Ernest Hemingway short stories over and over. One in particular is A Clean Well-Lighted Place.

Have you ever been in a book club? Was it in person or a virtual group?
I was in 2 book clubs when I lived in San Francisco, CA and when I moved to Reykjavik, Iceland I joined a virtual one but I did not participate. I dropped out. 🙁

Do you share what you’re reading online?
Yes on Goodreads. I love it! http://www.goodreads.com/charlane
